Ever wondered what aliens think of us? Let’s find out!
In a world where the sun has been eclipsed for decades with no sign of the sun coming back, the people have fled to four major city, where towers keep the Darkness at bay. When the duke of Cavendish, keeper of the Blackmund tower, is assassinated, detective Allen and his alien assistant Blu start the tedious process of trying to unravel the shrouded truth the family was hiding….
At first sight, the graphic quality of this comic is not what you’ll remember from it. But what’s so great about comics that have run for so long (Blu has been going since October 2017) is that you can follow its improvement page by page. The style is consistent to begin with, you’ll have no issue recognizing each character. There is a big jump in line work and anatomy by chapter 3, and an even bigger one around chapter 8, where the colors get really interesting.
It’s not easy either, as the whole comic is set in perpetual night, giving it a very specific ambiance that is rendered better with each chapter. The backgrounds are simple but efficient, with a few very good ones for big pages that i appreciated.
Being a mystery/detective type of comic, the challenge is to keep the reader wanting more, and Blu does this job pretty well. There isn’t page turners per say, but the intrigue itself carries the comic. Damn, I want to know what happened! The balance between found clues, answers and new mystery added to the main plot is well crafted, and keeps us looking forward to more information. There’s always some new information keeping the mystery going and keeping us on our toes.
Having an alien character can be tricky too, but it’s honestly my favorite thing about the comic. Blu doesn’t know anything about human culture, the laws of this world and the customs, which makes it so fun and refreshing to see them learn and question little things about her human (and vampire) friends.
Overall, the cast is pretty restricted, meaning that we get ample time to get to know each character’s story and personality, with a few flashbacks from time to time.
The setting of the world is original, and the world building is good. I would like to see more of the magic side though, something that we didn’t see a whole lot of yet.
Also, fun bit, between each chapter, there is a Q&A section where the characters answer our questions! They are very fun tidbits and allow us to learn even more about the cast, and even the author.
Blu is a very quick read for mystery and alien lovers. With the comic going on for so long I hope it will keep going and I can get to the bottom of this mystery!

Would I recommend: Yes, for lovers of intrigue.
Will I keep reading: I sure will check on it from time to time!
